12 Jul Event entitled: “Happiness in Lifelong Learning”

The event entitled “Happiness in Lifelong Learning” took place in the historic café “Kipos”, on Monday, 9 May 2016, in the occasion of the European Erasmus+/KA2 Programme, which was approved and carried out by the 16th Intercultural Primary School of Chania.
17 teachers and 23 students from schools of different European cities attended the event. Among the schools that participated in the programme were: 1) Ravnsholtskolen of Allerød, Denmark, 2) Ryburn Valley High School of West Yorkshire, Great Britain, 3) Agrupamento de Escolas of Lousada, Portugal, 4) Ozel Utopya Ilkokulu of Istanbul, Turkey, 5) IBiS-Grundschule “Maria Montessori” of Wittenberge, Germany, 6) Osnovna šola Drska of Novo Mesto, Slovenia, 7) the teachers and students of the 16th Intercultural Primary School of Chania.
In addition to parents, carers and educators, who attended the event, Mr. Emmanouil Miliarakis, Head of the Primary Education Directorate of Chania, Mr. Nikolaos Vlasakis, President of the School Committee of the Municipality of Chania, Mr. Antonios Mylonakis, School Counselor of the 5th Educational District, and Mr. Ilias Pontikakis, former Head of the Primary Education were, also, present.
Mr. Emmanouil Miliarakis, Head of the Primary Education Directorate of Chania, opened the event, while Mr. Vasilis Stathakis, President of the European Historic Cafés Association and host of the historic café “Kipos”, on behalf of the association’s Board of Directors, gave out commemorative gifts from the “Museum of Typography” Yannis & Eleni Garedakis.
The programme of the event included:
- Presentation of the history of Chania by Mrs Irini Tsikalaki, headmaster of the 16th Intercultural Primary School of Chania.
- Presentation of traditional Cretan dances by dancers of the Folklore Group of Chania and the dance and drama instructor Mrs Stella Agiasmenaki.
- Presentation of songs by the choir of the 16th Intercultural Primary School of Chania and the music teacher Mrs Afroditi Michalacopoulou.
- Presentation, by all students that participated in the programme, of the “Happy Song”, composed and recorded by members of the 16th Intercultural Primary School of Chania.
The event closed with the historic café “Kipos” offering traditional treats – tsikoudia (a traditional drink like marc brandy) for the adults and sweets for kids – and the traditional Cretan sweet “xerotigana” from the Simandirakis Pastry lab.
